University Assignment: Collecting
For this project, I was tasked with selecting a subject to ”collect” and develop into a cohesive photographic series.
After some thought, I decided to focus on ‘Dogs’ as my subject. I aimed to capture their unique personalities, producing a series of eight photographs that work harmoniously together. Each image reflects the diverse characteristics, moods, and behaviors that make dogs such compelling subjects, and collectively, they represent my artistic exploration of this theme.
Collection – Dogs
Creative Process
For this collection I chose images that were taken from a similar view point, with the dogs facing the same way and then used lightroom to modify the colour to make them to give them a sense of connection between each one.
I liked the idea of not using colour for the collection as this personally drew my attention to each subject easier, as some backgrounds were a little bit too noisy.
I have spent a lot of time photographing dogs over the years, and I feel a great love towards the images I have taken as they remind me of a great time in my life, pregnancy.
Once I stopped working due to pregnancy, I couldn’t sit still and needed to find something to do!
I used to head down to the doggy beach and sit on the beach for hours whilst my boxer played and I’d capture all of the unique dogs that came to enjoy their time in the sand!
I started taking portraits trying to capture their unique personalities in the images I took.
Before each portrait I enjoyed taking the time to watch them play and be free before bringing them over to sit and take their photos. This way I could really get to know each individual.
